ACCESS

Now that you've learned Access, what real world applications could you use this software for? Did you encounter any difficulties doing any of the Chapter Activities or homework? How did you resolve your problems? Do you have any advice or helpful hints for your classmates on how to do any of the activities?

In Class students: Share with the online students the information from Access they need to know for the final exam.

  1. We can use the database for real world applications such as utility bills. If we had a utility company, we can track which customers have paid or not paid their utility bills by the due date.
For the Access Final Exam, we have to know how to use a Wildcard, Sorting, Joining, and Calculating and maybe Grouping too. The Access Exam may be on Access Chap 2. I have a habit of writing important things down during in class lectures. That is how I got this information in my agenda. I hope I have listed all the information that Professor Sutton talked about in class about the Access Final. Now I am sharing, what I know, with everyone.
In this week’s assignment on Access Chapter 2 in “Creating a Query” assignment does ascending order by city mean that we have to create a Query in ascending order from Brownstown, MI to Woodhaven, MI including the rest of the information like name, address etc. Also, does descending order by the date of order mean that we have to create a Query in descending order from 6/5/2007 to 5/1/2007 including the rest of the information like name, address etc. I have already done this part of the assignment but have not turned it in because I just want to make sure that I am on the right track in Access Chap 2, just like everybody else. Thank You. Good Luck everyone.

  2. Sorry about the descending order part I put earlier in this blog. I corrected it and I think I have the date of order now as from 6/30/2007 to 5/1/2007. This is how it should be I guess.Did anybody get the same ascending and descending order as me?

  3. This program would probably be great for keeping track of employees, clients, etc., for any small business or even organizing your personal finances or household. As long as you don't get intimidated by the details and just use your common sense, it seems pretty easy to navigate. I've noticed there are a lot of different ways of coming to the same conclusion. It's a matter of which way is the quickest and easiest.
I had a frustrating time with the first assignment because I downloaded Ms. Sutton's databases first and when I spent an hour or so entering the data, instead of importing it or cut and paste from excel, it came up in the same order of the downloads. I thought that part of the assignment was about doing the data entry (which I am not cut out for- too slow) so I wanted to show that I did the work. As it turns out, when you enter the same data, access recognizes it and just gives the same database a different name. If any of that makes sense.
It kind of works out when you are trying to fix something, because you learn a lot about the program just from exploring. It's amazing what Access can do.

  4. Access could be used for pretty much anything and everything. It could be used within a business setting or even in one's household to keep track of different things. Access makes things very organized and very easy to update. I didn’t come into any problems with the assignments and bookwork until the Access 3, “Update Papa Joe’s Zip.” I’m not really sure what went wrong but I seem to be missing something. If anyone has any suggestions, that would be great!

  5. Valeria Sallijeva...

We could use Access for many different things today, especially it will be very helpful if you are planing on having your own business. Access was a little difficult for me, but I got through it.

  6. I agree with everyone else that access would be great for businesses and tracking home expenditures. I also think it would be great as a back-up system for many businesses that already use proprietary systems- just in case.

Chelsea, what I did with the access III homework was I created a client form then clicked the find/replace button. After that I typed the “48134” zip in the find and the “48136” in the replace and clicked enter. I don’t know if that helps, but it worked for me.

  7. Access could be used by businesses or individuals to keep track of all sorts of information imaginable, which makes it extremely useful to know. I haven't really had any problems yet, except a couple times when the book said to click on things that it didn't describe or show in the book, but I was able to find them soon.

  8. I think Access could be used more in a business setting. I would be interested in know how it could be used in a home setting, if anyone has any suggestions? I didn't have any problems doing the book work but I didn't really enjoy access too much. Im looking forward to PP.

  9. I too, think Access would be very helpful to many small business and even to some households. It is a very good software for super organzied people. I didnt have any problems with Access Chapert 1,2, or 3. It is a very indepth program and takes up a little bit of time.
As far as what will be on the Exam, I think Sohail pretty well covered it. I also think you well be able to use your textbook during the exam.

  10. Access can be used for organizing database for businesses or personal use. Database with a vast amount of information will find Access a good source of keeping records. I had some challenges in preparing the Access exercising, however, was able to work through the details. I am more familiar with Word and Excel, so I hope we are able to use our textbooks for the finals as a good referral for the Access exercises.

  11. My work uses access to figure out client information such as: who owes us money, how many new clients we acquired during one month, etc. Therefore I personally see how it is used in a small business. I certainly did not enjoy access, I found it rather boring. However I did not come across any issues, except having a total brain fart and submitting it incorrectly. But Professor Sutton helped me with this foolish error.

  12. At both of my jobs we use multiple access databases. We use them to track staffing daily, number and location of fire extinguishers(there are over 1,000 fire extinguishers at Kings Dominion), and for basic information about equipment used. I did not have any issues with the chapters but I did submit the Chapter 2 assignment incorrectly. As for a tip the only one I can provide is practice makes perfect, the more you use access the better you will be with it.
